Common Good and Greater Good
General
I don't think there are any greater good. Religious, socialist or nationalistic
greater good are hoaxes more or less. Individuals are all there is. Some would
certainly say this is a depressing conclusion, sometimes I agree, sometimes I think
it is ok and sometimes I think it is an immensely beautiful conclusion. No matter
what I think of it it I can't change a logical conclusion just by disliking it, it
could of course be the wrong logical conclusion but not because I dislike it (but I
dont always do that either). Unlike unlike libertarians I do not think this makes it immoral
with redistribution of income for example. I think that we should at least redistribute
income so people do not starve of course, but more redistribution might be morally
motivated. I would not call it solidarity though, when it in fact is forced
redistribution. I think it could be morally justifiable even without any "socialist"
sound good word on it. I think the same on collectively paid medical care. I think
privately financed medical care works fine for the greater part of the people but
there is a too big minority that can not afford the insurance. So I think it is
a good idea with collectively financed medical care but I do not see that this adds
any value to any "socialist" feel good dream, it is just well motivated by reality.
